Hey everyone, I was reading more about Thomas McClellan’s case and can't help but feel a deep sadness for his family and friends. It's so tragic that he lost his life in such a public and senseless manner. I wanted to talk about how surprising it is that the ShotSpotter system didn’t pick up the gunshots that killed him. Given how widespread gun violence is in Homewood, it feels like technology like this would be essential in providing a safer environment or at least reacting more effectively when tragedy strikes. It makes you really question the reliability of systems we might be depending on to make us safer, doesn’t it? I can imagine how this could also be incredibly frustrating for the investigators, and possibly even add to the distrust between residents and law enforcement. If we can't rely on these tools, what’s next? Do you think there’s room for improvement with this system, or should new solutions be considered? It’s just heartbreaking to think that technological failures might hinder justice for someone like Thomas, who didn’t deserve this. My thoughts are with everyone who knew him.
