The U.S. Coast Guard conducted extensive searches, which brings up an interesting discussion about search and rescue operations. Considering the technology and methods available in 1996, I wonder if there have been advancements since then that might have changed the outcome or provided more answers. Was the search effort as thorough as it could have been back then, especially given the challenges of searching such deep waters?
