Can we talk about the timeline leading up to Charles Porter’s murder? I was going through some old articles and noticed there’s not much info about who might have been with him or seen him shortly before the stabbing. Did he have any visitors that day or the night before?
It's so difficult to think about how his family, especially his son who found him, has been left with questions for so long. I’m hoping that more people who lived around North Rockford Avenue back in the '70s might come forward. Maybe they remember something odd from that morning. Even small details could shed light on what happened. It's been over 50 years, but any piece of information can be invaluable. If anyone knows more about the days leading up to January 2, please reach out to the authorities or share here so we can piece together what went on.
Does anyone else find it puzzling how there seemed to be no signs of forced entry in the Porter case? I've been reading a lot about the circumstances, and it makes me wonder if Charles might have known his attacker. I can’t imagine the pain his family has endured all these years without answers. It’s hard to grasp how someone could commit such a violent act and manage to disappear without leaving any significant evidence behind. If anyone has insights into how common it is for cases like this to have no forced entry but still appear so violent, I’d love to hear your thoughts. Maybe it could lead to a fresh perspective or even jog someone’s memory about that day in 1971. Keeping the Porter family in my thoughts.
Having followed cold cases for years, the story of Charles James Porter is one that really sticks with me. It’s hard to wrap my head around how someone can just vanish into thin air, leaving a violent act like this behind without answers. The thought that his son had to live through the trauma of finding his father like that is just unimaginable. I imagine he still carries that weight.
Does anyone know if they ever did DNA testing on this case? I feel like advances in forensic technology might be able to bring about some new leads, even after all this time. Maybe there’s still hope for some form of justice for Charles and his family. It’s cases like these that remind me why it's important to keep these stories alive—they deserve answers, and more importantly, closure.
