I've been reading through the tragic events surrounding the Oklahoma Girl Scout Murders and something that's been on my mind is the impact this must have had on camp safety policies across the country. The fact that Lori Farmer, Michelle Guse, and Denise Milner were attacked so close to their tent really highlights how vulnerable kids can be in settings where they should feel safest. After this horrific event, I wonder how camps responded nationwide. Did other camps immediately ramp up security or change sleeping arrangements for campers and counselors? It’s disturbing to think about how such heinous acts led to changes in policies that were supposed to protect innocent children. I sincerely hope that these precautions have helped prevent other families from experiencing such a devastating loss. My heart goes out to the families involved and all the Girl Scouts who were deeply affected by this tragedy.
