Hey all, I recently dug into the case of Kim Louise Mallon, who disappeared back in 1973, and something's been bugging me. I read that Kim was using different names — either "Rhonda Kay Mallon" or her birth name "Rhonda Kay Lytton." This got me wondering, how common was it back then for patients in psychiatric hospitals to use aliases? Could the use of an alias have been a personal choice? Or maybe something done for some kind of treatment purpose? I'm curious about whether this could have factored into why she hasn't been found all these years later. If she was known by different names, it makes it even harder to trace her movements after leaving the hospital. Does anyone have insight into how name changes were managed in those settings back then, and whether these might have affected search efforts? Any thoughts or similar cases you've come across? It's just so perplexing, and I'd love to hear everyone's perspectives on this angle. Thanks!
