I was diving into the strange case of the Guthrie family's disappearance in 1977, and something that caught my attention was the car they were driving. A white 1974 Ford Maverick with a green roof isn't exactly stealthy, especially back then when car models were more distinct. I'm puzzled why no one has ever reported seeing it, considering how eye-catching that description is. You’d think with all the attention drawn to the missing family, sightings of the car would have surfaced. Could it have been hidden somewhere intentionally, or perhaps painted over to disguise it? Anyone who has read up on similar cases, did any details about hidden vehicles or altering them ever come up that could hint at what happened here?
Has anyone looked into whether there were any construction projects or roadworks happening around Katonah or the surrounding areas around the time the Guthries went missing? I’ve read about a few cases where missing cars were later found accidentally buried at construction sites or near major infrastructure projects. It might be a long shot, but with the weather and snow that February, it's possible the car could have been accidentally covered or overlooked if it went off-road somehow. Maybe old construction company records or permits could shed some light? It's been so many years, I can't help but wonder if something like this was left unexplored!
Has anyone else looked into the weather on the night Leslie Guthrie and her kids went missing? February in New York can be brutal, and I was just thinking about how the driving conditions might have been that night. If there was a snowstorm or ice on the roads, perhaps something unfortunate happened unintentionally. I haven't been able to find the specifics on what the weather was like in Katonah that evening, but it might explain why their car hasn't surfaced if it ended up in a remote or hard-to-reach area. Just a thought that popped into my head while re-reading about the case.
