Hey everyone, just wanted to bring up something that's been bugging me about the Cogburn sisters' case. I recently came across some old newspaper articles and noticed that there seems to be very little focus on the dynamic between the sisters themselves. I mean, living under such a tumultuous family situation, and then being uprooted to live with someone else—who they reportedly ended up having issues with—must have put a strain on their relationship. Maybe one of them knew more about what was happening than the other, or perhaps they had plans to get out that didn’t pan out as expected? It’s all pure speculation, but the human aspect of cases like this can sometimes get lost in all the details. Anyone else ever wonder about this, or come across info in the case files suggesting sibling dynamics at play here? I feel like there's more to their story than what's been pieced together so far.
Has anyone else looked into the timeline around the days leading up to Josephine and Joyce's disappearance? The fact that neither sister took any of their belongings when they supposedly "went to the library" is really strange to me, especially considering it was just a temporary living situation. Why wouldn't they take anything if they were planning to leave for good? I'm also curious about the dynamics between Josephine, Joyce, and the family friend who had custody. The allegations of an ended relationship between Joyce and this man might hint at a motive, but it seems there's more to the story. Has there been any deep dive into who else the sisters might have been in contact with in Norman, or if any acquaintances noticed changes in their behavior leading up to that day? Would love to hear your thoughts or if anyone has additional insights.
Anyone else find it strange how the man who reported Josephine and Joyce missing was granted temporary custody in the first place? I was looking into custody norms around that time, and it seems a little off for two teenage girls to be placed under the care of a male family friend, especially with the family already having a troubled past. And then to think that Joyce might have had a relationship with him? Weird on so many levels. Could he have used his position to manipulate the situation once things went sideways? I’m no investigator, but it’s hard to overlook how such a custody arrangement made it easy for him to avoid scrutiny for so long. Has anyone found any details on why the authorities or their mother agreed to this setup? Seems like this could have been a huge oversight in keeping the girls safe, if you ask me.
