I've been following the Brad Bellino case for a while now, and there's one thing that I keep thinking about: how did Joseph Norman Hill manage to avoid detection for so many years? It just seems unimaginable to me that someone could commit such a horrific act and then go on living a seemingly normal life without ever being caught. The fact that Hill never had any known connection with Brad adds another layer of mystery. It's terrifying to think that someone capable of such violence could be lurking in a community without raising suspicions. One small conviction in 1986 and then nothing else in his record – how does that happen? It makes you wonder what might have been going on in Hill's life at the time or how he managed to keep such a dark part of himself hidden from everyone around him. It's a relief that Brad's family finally has some answers, though I can't imagine the mix of emotions they must be feeling knowing the perpetrator is gone and won't face justice. The use of genetic genealogy in catching Hill offers some hope that other cold cases could potentially be solved in the future, providing some comfort to families who have been waiting far too long for answers. If anyone is familiar with the case or has thoughts about Hill's life after the crime, I'd be interested to hear your perspective.
