I've been following Bertha Jeanette Burkholder's mysterious disappearance for a while now, and something that's always puzzled me is the timeframe of events. Her husband mentioned that Bertha packed a suitcase and left in the middle of the night while everyone was asleep. But how could she have managed to leave without anyone noticing? Were the kids easily disturbed sleepers, or was the apartment particularly noisy with neighbors or something? It seems odd to me that there weren't any reported sounds or disturbances during this. Has anyone else thought about this? Any insight from locals or those familiar with the area at the time might help shed some light.
I've been following Bertha Burkholder's disappearance for a while, and something that really sticks out to me is the mystery surrounding her suitcase. If Bertha truly packed a suitcase, what happened to it? You'd think if she had left voluntarily, someone somewhere might have noticed a young woman traveling with a suitcase. Plus, considering that she didn't have access to any money or credit cards, how far could she have realistically gone on foot with luggage in tow? Could someone have been waiting for her, offering her a ride to an unknown destination? Or was the packed suitcase just meant to be a decoy? The absence of even the smallest trace, like a piece of clothing or the suitcase itself, is baffling. Anyone have thoughts on how this aspect of the case might fit into the bigger picture?
