Hey everyone, I was reading about Jon Evans Ottesen's case, and something caught my attention around the area he went missing. Does anyone know if there were any noteworthy weather conditions in the Black Range of the Gila National Forest around the time he disappeared? I think it's possible that unexpected weather might have affected his plans or led him off his intended path. Just wondering if anyone has insight into what the hikers in that region should be cautious about, especially in early September. It seems like that could be a significant factor in what might have happened.
Has anyone else wondered about the possibility of an animal encounter in Jon Ottesen's case? Considering the area he disappeared in is part of the Gila National Forest, it makes me think of potential dangers like large wildlife. I know that area has bears and mountain lions. I'm curious if there was any evidence of animal tracks or disturbances around where his truck was found? Could this be a reason why no trace of him has ever surfaced? I know it's a bit of a wild theory, but in such remote areas, it seems like something worth considering. Would love to hear thoughts on this!
Does anyone have information about the weather conditions in the Gila National Forest around the time Jon Ottesen went missing? I was wondering if any sudden changes could have impacted his hike. Hiking in September might seem safe, but mountain weather is so unpredictable. I remember reading stories where quick shifts in weather led to hikers getting lost or disoriented. Maybe a storm or cold front rolled through unexpectedly? If anyone from the area or with knowledge of the weather patterns back then could shed some light, it might help us piece together what happened during Jon’s hike. I believe any bit of information, no matter how small, could be crucial!
