Hey everyone, I've been reading up on the Malia brothers' case, and I keep coming back to the detail about the life jackets still being sealed on the boat. It's just wild to me. You'd think that with such a powerful boat as a Douglas Skater Catamaran, there would be an extra sense of caution. I wonder if it was just overconfidence with their new boat or if they just didn't anticipate any danger on what was probably supposed to be a fun day out.
The ocean can be so unpredictable, especially when you factor in high speed. It's such a sad situation, and I can't help but think about how things might have turned out differently if the life jackets had been used. Anyone have any insight into why experienced boaters might skip life jackets altogether? Maybe there was some sort of false sense of security with the boat's capabilities. Would love to hear any thoughts or similar stories.
