I’ve been reading up on Matthew Solomon’s case and can’t help but feel so sorry for what his family is going through. What really struck me was Matthew’s passion for spoken word poetry and how he used it as an outlet for creativity and expression. It’s just truly devastating to think about the artistic voice that was silenced far too soon. I’ve read that he was working so hard at Goodwill after his promotion to provide for his kids, even while pursuing his art. It’s terrible to see his dream of rebuilding his life cut short by such senseless violence. My heart goes out to his children, who not only lost a father but also a role model who could’ve inspired a love of creativity in them. There’s something deeply wrong when someone working towards a better life, trying to be a pillar for his family and community, is taken away in an instant. Let’s keep discussing ways we can support communities plagued by violence, and perhaps, help prevent these tragedies from happening to other families in the future.
