Has anyone else come across the detail about Gerard John Schaefer, the suspected perpetrator in Pamela Ann Nater and Nancy Leichner's disappearance, being a former law enforcement officer? It’s chilling to think that someone who was supposed to uphold the law may have used that position to engage in such heinous acts. I was reading through some old articles and found out that it wasn't uncommon for Schaefer to brag about his crimes while in jail, which makes his possible involvement in this case even more disturbing. I mean, what does that say about the possibility of justice being served here when he was never officially charged? Just curious if anyone else has looked into how rampant these kinds of abuses of power might have been back then, or if there are similar unresolved cases that people think might be connected to him because of his law enforcement background?

I've been reading up on the disappearance of Pamela Ann Nater and can't help but wonder about the nature trail where she and Nancy Leichner were last seen. Given the vastness of the Ocala National Forest, I find it puzzling how difficult it must have been to search every nook and cranny of the area back in the '60s without the technology we have today. It makes me think about how trails can be misleading, especially with various offshoot paths and dense foliage. Anyone else fascinated by how different search and rescue operations might have been back then? I can’t shake the feeling that something crucial might have been overlooked just off the main path during the initial search. What are your thoughts on potential places authorities might have missed?
