I've always found Steven Thomas's case to be particularly intriguing due to the circumstances surrounding his last known whereabouts. I can't help but wonder about the dynamics within the hiking group and if anything was happening there that we don't know. Why would Steven feel the need to venture out alone, especially leaving behind his gear? Was it just impulsive teenage behavior, or was there something more?
I also think the timing of his disappearance is interesting. He had just come back from a trip out West, which makes me think there might have been something on his mind weighing heavily during the hike. Could his experiences or someone he met on that trip have influenced his decision-making when he reached Mount Marcy? There are just so many possibilities. Anyone else find anything odd about the details surrounding his last interactions with his group?
Hey everyone, I've been following Steven Paul Thomas's case for a while now, and something that's been intriguing me is the gear he left behind. From what I understand, he left his backpack and provisions at the lean-to when he decided to go toward the summit. It's puzzling to me because, even if he had short-term plans to head back, you'd think someone familiar with hiking, especially in freezing conditions, would take at least some basic supplies or layers with them. Some reports say he only took his knife and was wearing minimal clothing.
Could this suggest more about his state of mind at the time? He had just gotten back from a trip out west and hinted at "undisclosed future plans." I wonder if leaving his gear was an intentional decision, maybe part of a larger plan we don't know about, or just a spur-of-the-moment choice that tragically cost him. It's such a baffling aspect of the case. Thoughts?
