I was thinking about the tragic loss of Valentine Mbah and how it impacts our community still. He seemed to be such a dedicated business owner and, more importantly, a devoted father. I can only imagine what his son went through that night and has continued to endure since then. The idea that someone took away not just a life, but a father and community figure, is deeply upsetting. What’s even more stressful is the fact that this happened in the parking lot of his own store—a place that should have been familiar and safe. I hope that by keeping the community engaged and vigilant, someone might finally come forward with information. Anyone who was around Salem Avenue during that time and might have noticed something, even if it seemed insignificant, could be key to helping Valentine’s family find the peace they deserve.
