Michael Simmons' case has stayed with me ever since I first heard about it. It’s tough to process how much violence plagued Long Beach during that time, and how Michael was taken in the midst of it. Something that stands out to me is the lack of community cooperation that often hinders investigations in such cases.
I can’t help but wonder if fear was a factor in why people weren’t coming forward. The potential for retaliation in neighborhoods with active gang presence must be significant. It’s so important for those who might know something to have means of reporting safely and anonymously. Does anyone know if there were initiatives back then to protect those who wanted to share information?
To Michael’s family and friends, my thoughts are with you. I hope this community can somehow bring more attention to the case and maybe one day get those long-awaited answers. It’s essential for us to keep discussing these cases and push for justice, not just for Michael, but for all victims like him.

Mike was not a gang member. He was chased down by someone and shot in the head multiple times. His apartment was turned upside down and there was a photo that was found and on the back someone wrote “ I guess this is our last Christmas “ whoever killed him knew him our son is now 25 he was 8 when this happened it has left a hole in our life and it’s killing us not knowing details we have been left in the dark

Hey everyone,
I've been following the case of Michael Simmons, and one thing that really struck me is how the community's reluctance to cooperate with law enforcement may have hampered the investigation. It's incredibly frustrating to think that fear or distrust could prevent justice from being served for Michael and his family.
Does anyone know if there have been efforts to bridge this gap between the community and the police since 2008? It seems like building trust could be key to solving not only Michael’s case but also many other unsolved cases in Long Beach from that period. My heart goes out to all the families who are still waiting for answers.
Any insights or updates on community-police relations in Long Beach would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
