Hey everyone, I’ve been reading up on the Richard Phillips case and something just doesn’t sit right with me about the distress signal that was sent out. If the plane was having trouble, shouldn't they have been able to provide more information about their exact location or the nature of the emergency? I've read that distress signals in that era weren't as precise as today’s tech, but does anyone know just how detailed they would have been in 1979? It seems like such a big lake to narrow down without more specifics. I'd love to hear if anyone else has insights on how such signals worked back then or if this missing piece of information might have hindered the search efforts.
Just speculating here, but does anyone else find it odd how no debris from the plane was ever found? I mean, Lake Ontario has been searched extensively over the years. You'd think something would have floated to the surface or washed up somewhere. I remember reading about other plane crashes where debris got spread over a wide area, and some of it eventually turned up. Yet for Richard Phillips, Michael Pfaff, and Albert Zeitler, nothing ever surfaced. Could it be that the plane went down in such a deep part of the lake that it's never been reached, or is there another explanation? I've read about the suitcases and other personal items that float even in deep water, but in this case, there's just nothing. It just leaves so many questions unanswered.
