I came across an article about the Lincoln Park West fire, and it made me think about building safety standards. I can't even imagine the terror the residents felt when they realized their way out was blocked. What's puzzling to me is how quickly the fire spread through a stairway, which should have been a safer area under fire codes. I wonder if there were any previous complaints by residents about safety violations or if this somehow ties into how quickly the fire progressed. My heart goes out to Ismael Noriega-Mejia, his family, and all the victims. Hopefully, investigators can uncover crucial details about how such a fire could tear through a supposed fire-resistant area. This sort of tragedy should serve as a reminder to question and ensure that our living spaces adhere to safety regulations.
