I’ve been following the Edward Dylan Bryant case, and something that often gets overlooked is the delay in reporting the boys missing. It wasn't until 2011 that anyone realized they were gone, despite Edward disappearing as far back as 2001. How is it possible that social services or schools never caught on to their absence for so long? Given that they were special needs children, you'd think there would be more oversight or routine check-ins by caregivers. It makes me wonder if there were systemic failures that allowed this to happen. What steps can we take to ensure this kind of oversight lapse doesn't happen again? I'm curious if anyone else has thoughts on improving the safety net for vulnerable kids in adoptive or foster care situations.
