I’ve been following Maria Pomona Cruz Estrada’s case and got curious about the Mojave National Preserve's weather patterns. I was wondering if anyone knows what the weather was like around the time Maria went missing. We know June can be extremely hot in the desert, and without any water, conditions could get dire pretty quickly. Could extreme weather have played a part in disorienting Maria or causing her to veer off the path? Has anyone checked if there were any weather alerts or unusual conditions reported around June 7, 2008? Sometimes knowing the small details like environmental conditions at the time can shed a little light, especially in vast and challenging terrains like the Mojave.

I've been following Maria Pomona Cruz Estrada's case, and something that's been puzzling me is the decision for Maria and her hiking companion to split up when they reached the fork in the trail. I know in hiking safety, the general rule is to stay together, especially in areas like the Mojave. I wonder if this choice was based on past experiences they had or maybe there was some kind of miscommunication about where the vehicle was parked. It's curious that they thought the car might be in different locations. I hope people familiar with the trail or who have hiked in the Mojave can shed some light on this.
