Hey everyone,
I stumbled upon some old articles and got really invested in Neely Shane Smith's case from 1981. It's tragic how such a young, innocent life was taken away so violently. I noticed that Fred Coffey has always been a prime suspect due to his convictions for other child murders in Charlotte, but it frustrates me that there's still no concrete evidence to link him directly to Neely's murder.
With the advancements in DNA technology today, do you think there's hope that investigators might finally get the breakthrough they've been waiting for? The thought that her family never got closure is so heavy on my heart. Even all these years later, I can't imagine their pain.
Does anyone know if there’s been any recent news or development? It would be amazing to see Neely’s case finally solved so her loved ones can find some sense of peace.
Keeping hope alive,

Has anyone else been following Neely Shane Smith's case? I've been diving deep into this one lately and came across some old news reports about the gray-haired man witnesses saw. It’s been over 40 years, yet the description is so chilling. I can’t imagine the horror Neely faced, and I truly feel for her family, who have had to live with the lack of closure for so long.
One thing I’ve been wondering about is the possibility of updates in forensic technology. With advances in DNA testing, could there be an undiscovered piece of evidence that finally ties someone like Fred Coffey to Neely's case? I know he’s been considered a prime suspect for years, but without that hard evidence, it feels like there’s this heavy veil still hanging over everything. It just seems that there has to be something more we can do with today’s technology.
Is anyone here more versed in how cold cases can be revisited or how new DNA techniques could come into play? It’s a long shot, but hoping for answers someday feels like the least we can do for Neely and her loved ones.
