I've been fascinated by the case of Mattie Lou Zabel lately. Something that stands out to me is the thawing chicken in the sink when she disappeared. It's such a mundane detail, but it makes you wonder about her plans that day. Mattie seemed to have every intention of returning home that evening, which adds to the perplexity of the case. Was it possible someone knew her routine well enough to plan an encounter? It's unsettling to think that someone might have known she'd be at the park, her usual spot for walks, alone. I wonder if investigators looked into whether any similar incidents happened in the area around that time. It just seems like such an odd and unfortunate coincidence that someone can vanish without a trace from a familiar place during what should have been a normal day.
I’ve been thinking a lot about where Mattie's car was found at Black Hawk Park, and I'm trying to wrap my head around why she would have parked there. It's known for being a place she visited often for walks, but I can’t help but wonder if that’s the only reason she ended up there that day. Could someone have met her there deliberately? Or is it possible she went there as a routine, seeking peace? Given how the police mentioned options like an accident or potential self-harm due to her depression, I don't think we can dismiss the possibility that something unintended happened.
Also, the part about her purse being locked inside her car strikes me as odd. I mean, if you're just going for a walk, wouldn’t you take your purse, even if just for the keys? Feels like this case has a lot of missing pieces. I’d love to hear anyone’s thoughts, maybe we can brainstorm some new leads here.
I’ve been digging into Mattie Lou Zabel’s case from 1978 lately, and something's been bugging me about her car being found at Black Hawk Park. It's a place where she liked to go for walks, which on the surface seems normal, but could it also be a decoy? I mean, leaving her purse locked inside the car feels odd because wouldn’t she need it if she was just going for a walk? Plus, the frozen chicken in the sink makes it seem like she was planning to come back.
Is there any chance she met someone there or was meeting someone she knew but wasn't supposed to meet up with? I know the police thought she might have had an accident by the river, but has anyone looked into the people she might have interacted with around that time? Friends, coworkers, acquaintances, anyone she might have mentioned being in contact with even casually? I just can't stop thinking there's more to this location connection. Thoughts?
