Just came across Fonessa Lynn Louise Bruyere's case, and it's another stark reminder of the struggles Indigenous families face when seeking justice. What really gets me is how the system failed her at so many levels. Less than three months before she was killed, Fonessa was returned to a living situation deemed unsafe by a report. How does that even happen? It makes you wonder about the decisions made by child welfare services and if more could have been done to protect her. My heart goes out to her family, who have had to fight not only for justice but also against a system that seemed to disregard their fears and concerns from the start. It’s frustrating to see how Indigenous communities often have to work twice as hard to be heard. Justice for Fonessa is long overdue. ?
