Three days after her twenty-eighth birthday, Kaelynn Davis was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting in Chula Vista, California, on August 15, 2026. She and her boyfriend had pulled over near Steiner Drive and Higgins Street when another vehicle pulled alongside and an occupant opened fire. Eight to ten rounds struck the driver’s side; the boyfriend was hit twice and survived. A single bullet struck Kaelynn in the heart on the passenger side. He drove them to a hospital, but Kaelynn did not survive.
Kaelynn’s death reopened long-standing grief for her father, Carl Davis, who lost another daughter, Sasha, in a 2005 home invasion murder for which the perpetrator was later convicted. As of late August 2026, investigators had not publicly identified suspects or a motive, and no arrests had been announced. Her father has made a public plea for information.
