I've been following this case since it happened, and what struck me most is the bravery of that witness who was talking to Toni when Austin Reed attacked. I can't imagine the fear they must have felt seeing Toni get shot and then having the gun turned on them. It gives me chills to think of how narrowly they escaped. It’s a terrifying reminder of how violence can erupt so suddenly from everyday situations. My thoughts go out to Toni’s family and this witness—both have experienced such profound trauma. I hope the witness is getting the support they need after being involved in something so traumatic. I'm also hoping for Trooper Carruthers' full recovery. The bravery and quick action of the officers there that day likely saved lives, and they deserve gratitude and recognition for their efforts. It's just so jarring how a small town like Stuart has been shaken by such an unexpected and violent event.
