I’ve been digging into the Faulkner case and something that keeps haunting me is the total absence of forced entry. It makes me think the perpetrator was someone they knew or at least trusted enough to let in willingly. I can’t imagine the terror and betrayal they must have felt in those last moments, thinking they were safe in their own home. It’s chilling and so profoundly sad to think that their trust may have led to such a horrific end. It seems like Vernon Lee Clark knew how to blend in and gain people’s trust, which makes the possibility he could have done this even more disturbing. My heart goes out to the Faulkners’ loved ones, who’ve had to live with this uncertainty for so long. I hope one day they’ll get the answers they deserve.
