Hey all,
I've been doing a deep dive into the tragic case of Myrlene "Teepee" Hamer, and something that's been tugging at my heart is thinking about her final resting place. Highland Cemetery in Casper is where she was laid to rest, but I wonder how many people stop by to pay their respects today. It's a sobering thought that someone’s life can be overshadowed by their murderer's notoriety.
In these types of cases, we spend so much time focusing on the killer — in this instance, Carroll Edward "Eddie" Cole — that we overlook the life and tribulations of the victim. Myrlene deserves to be remembered not just as a victim, but as a person who had hopes, dreams, and people who loved her.
I really feel for her family and friends, who probably didn't get much justice or closure at the time since Cole wasn’t convicted for her murder directly. Can you imagine going years without knowing the truth, and then it all unfolds so far away from Wyoming?
Just wanted to honor her memory here and hope we continue to remember the person behind the tragedy. ?
Take care, everyone. Please keep Myrlene and her loved ones in your thoughts.
