Has anyone else been following the Essie Louise Buck case? I’ve been digging into some old newspaper clippings and can’t shake this uneasy feeling about how things were handled by the authorities. It’s baffling to me how the San Diego police stuck with their initial findings even after Carroll Edward Cole’s confession. You’d think a full re-evaluation of the evidence would be standard when someone confesses to a crime, especially one as serious as murder. I can only imagine how frustrating this must be for Essie's family—having to live with the ambiguity and knowing that the man who claimed to have killed her wasn’t officially linked to her death.
What do others think about how these kinds of cases should be handled? Should a confession hold more weight in the eyes of the law, or do you think the coroner's report should be the deciding factor? It seems like such a disservice to Essie and her loved ones to leave this case open-ended. I hope someday they can find some peace and recognition for what truly happened.
