I'm so heavily struck by the peculiar choice of a keepsake— the souvenir dagger from the 1964-1965 New York World's Fair— found at the scene of Alys's murder. It's such a chilling, almost theatrical decision by the killer to leave it behind. It baffles me to think how this unique item, with its limited production, didn't provide more solid leads at the time. Could it have been a trophy or a twisted signature of sorts for Cottingham? It's so eerie to imagine how a commemorative item meant to hold memories of joy and global unity was instead turned into a grim clue in such a horrific crime. I truly hope that Alys’s family has found some solace since Cottingham's confession, but it’s unimaginable to think of the torment they endured over those long years without knowing. These dark reminders must carry such a heavy weight, even as they try to heal. My heart goes out to them as they continue to reflect on Alys's memory and life.
