Did anyone else attend the vigil for Rayshaun back in September 2010? I wasn’t able to make it, but I heard it was a really emotional and impactful event. The red balloons are such a poignant tribute. I really commend the Religious Coalition for organizing it and for all they do to support families in these devastating situations. My heart truly goes out to Betty Cotton and the rest of Rayshaun’s family. It’s unimaginable to lose a loved one so suddenly and under such tragic circumstances. Durham has seen too many of these senseless acts of violence, and I really hope that someone comes forward with information to help solve this case. Anyone else have thoughts on what else the community can do to support families like Betty’s in their search for justice?
I keep thinking about the red balloons released during the vigil for Rayshaun Cotton back in 2010. It's been so many years, but the image is still vivid—balloons soaring into the sky, carrying hopes for justice on the wind. I can't even imagine what his mother, Betty, must go through each day, searching for answers and peace. It hurts to know his case still doesn’t have any closure.
Sometimes I wonder if enough awareness has been raised over the years, or if the passage of time has made it harder for people to come forward. I recently read that the Religious Coalition for a Nonviolent Durham played a significant role in the community's healing process, but we need more voices to keep Rayshaun’s memory alive and maybe help crack this case. If anyone knows anything, don’t let this slip through your fingers—please reach out to Durham CrimeStoppers and help bring some light to this lingering darkness.
