I've been following the Luis Baca-Cruz case closely, and something that's really been sitting with me is the eeriness of that early morning scene. I've lived in neighborhoods that were wakefully quiet in the pre-dawn hours, and I can't imagine hearing gunshots tear through that silence. It makes me think about the people who were jolted awake to such horror and the woman whose screams punctuated the aftermath. The trauma of witnessing such events is something that will stick with them forever. Even though Miguel Ortiz Boyd has been arrested, the shadow of this crime will linger in the community. Luis' family and friends, along with the residents of that mobile home park, must be in shock trying to process everything. I genuinely hope they have a strong support system in place to help them through this difficult time. If anyone is local to North Charleston, maybe check on each other and see if there's a way to help ease that collective burden.
