I want to talk about the impact that Lamarius Jones had on the young people of Asheville, especially through his involvement with the Asheville Youth Football League. It's hard to measure just how much "Coach Mari" meant to those kids, but the stories I've heard paint a picture of a truly inspiring and dedicated mentor.
His nickname, "Coach Mari," wasn't just a title—it was a role he embraced wholeheartedly. He wasn't merely teaching football skills; he was instilling values like teamwork, dedication, and resilience, which these kids will carry throughout their lives. It's so cruel that a man who devoted himself to uplifting others, especially the youth, was taken from us in an act of violence. His connection to the "My Daddy Taught Me That" program speaks volumes about his character and his commitment to being a positive role model.
I can only imagine the void his absence will leave in that league and the community as a whole. My heart goes out to all the young athletes he mentored and, of course, to his own daughter who lost her father so early in life. Let's remember the positive changes he made and keep his legacy alive.
