I’ve been following the news about Sara Duffey, and it’s just so difficult to comprehend the series of failures that led to this tragedy. I can’t stop thinking about the actual process of filing for a protective order and how it must’ve felt for Sara to go through that. I've read it’s often such an invasive and emotional process—having to relive experiences and convince strangers of the danger you’re in, just to try and secure some measure of safety. Sara was clearly fighting so hard to protect herself and her kids, doing everything the system asked of her. It’s incredibly disheartening that despite these efforts, it wasn't enough to stop what happened. It makes you question how we can make these protective measures more effective. A piece of paper just doesn't seem like a sufficient barrier against determined individuals like Jeremiah, who already showed he was capable of violating those boundaries. If anyone here can share insight on other measures or policies that have proven effective in protecting people in similar situations, it might help other families to avoid such heart-wrenching outcomes. My deepest sympathies go out to Sara’s children and everyone who loved her. They’ll need so much support moving forward, and I hope the community can rally around them during this unimaginable time.
