I've been following the case of Drayden Quiroz and Maliki Perales, and it's disturbing how close to home this senseless violence occurred. The fact that it happened in what should have been a safe place—a family's driveway—makes it even more chilling. I can't imagine the fear that Maliki and Drayden felt in those final moments, or the terror for their siblings who narrowly escaped injury. It's shocking to hear that their family was known for being so kind-hearted and community-focused. They were pillars in their neighborhood, and now their absence will be a void that can't be easily filled. What's even more perplexing to me is Perez's apparent attempt to claim self-defense. It doesn't make any logical sense given the circumstances, especially when the victims were just trying to leave their own home. It's hard to wrap my head around what was going through his mind, and I wonder if we’ll ever get a fully coherent motive in this case. My thoughts are with the family and friends grappling with such unimaginable loss. I hope justice is served for Drayden and Maliki.
