Poor Mr. Tyree. I've been thinking a lot about how his death was one of the first in a tragic sequence that no one saw coming at the time. It's chilling to imagine how an error with a catheter—a device meant to help and heal—spiraled into such a nightmare. The fact that such a young orderly, like Donald Harvey, could have escalated the situation from an accident into violence is baffling. I can't even begin to fathom what Tyree's family must have gone through, not knowing the truth until so many years later. It’s such a disservice that his case wasn’t handled separately in court, even though Harvey admitted to it later. Tyree deserved recognition and justice for what happened. It's important that we remember him and others like him, to bring acknowledgment to the lives affected and lost due to Harvey's actions. Hopefully, by learning from the missteps of the past, we can ensure hospitals have more rigorous checks in place now to keep patients safe from similar horrors. My heart goes out to Tyree's descendants who are left to grapple with these revelations decades later.
