This case is so tragic, and my heart truly goes out to the family of Silas Butner. It's difficult to wrap my head around how Donald Harvey managed to continue his horrific actions for so long without detection. What's particularly concerning to me is Harvey's belief that he was somehow "helping" his victims by ending their lives. It's chilling to think that he could justify such despicable actions in his mind.
I’ve been reading up about how patients, especially those who were already vulnerable, were too easily taken by surprise at hospitals during this time. It's alarming that someone tasked with caregiving could exploit their position for such sinister purposes. My thoughts are with the families who were denied the chance to demand true justice because of how long it took for the truth to surface.
It seems like lessons from cases like this one have since influenced safety measures in medical settings. Hopefully, the increased vigilance now ensures that similar patterns of abuse are detected earlier, but it's so sad that it took many innocent lives to prompt those changes. Thinking of Silas and hoping his family found some peace over the years.
