Hey everyone, I’ve been reading up on the Marymount Hospital cases and I keep thinking about the broader implications of what happened there, particularly concerning hospital safety and oversight. Maggie P. Rawlings was one of the victims, and it’s just so troubling to think how someone like Donald Harvey could operate undetected for so long. Hospitals are supposed to be places of healing, yet in this case, it became the backdrop for such tragic and preventable losses. One aspect I find particularly haunting is how Harvey went as far as using a plastic bag with the pillow, apparently trying to cover his tracks. It's mind-boggling that such actions could go unnoticed initially and that the hospital environment of the time enabled it due to the inherent trust in medical professionals. This really raises the question about checks and balances in medical facilities back then and even now. Are there enough safeguards to prevent someone from exploiting their position like Harvey did? I can't stop thinking about Maggie and all the other patients who trusted they were in a safe space. My heart goes out to their families, who had to wait so long to know the truth. What changes do you all think have been made since then to prevent something like this from happening again? Have any healthcare workers or those familiar with the system seen improvements in patient safety protocols? Would love to hear your insights.
