I came across some intriguing details about Reverend Gerald Fields' tragic murder while digging deeper into this case. One aspect that seems particularly puzzling is the choice of weapon. Why would the Lewingdon brothers consistently opt for a .22-caliber firearm, especially given the limited stopping power of such a weapon? It seems rather risky for intending robbers to use a caliber that might not guarantee incapacitation, especially if they feared confrontation. From what I've read, the use of homemade silencers suggests a preference for stealth over sheer firepower, possibly indicating they prioritized avoiding detection over causing immediate harm. But in doing so, they often resorted to what authorities described as "deliberate overkill." Were they simply more comfortable at close range, accounting for their choice of firearm, or was there an underlying reason for sticking with the .22? My heart goes out to those who knew Fields, knowing his life was taken in such an inexplicable manner. Although the killers are serving life sentences, understanding their motivations doesn't seem to bring much solace. It's haunting to consider how a loving clergyman balancing his responsibilities could have been just another target in their spree. His death, while considered 'solved,' still leaves so many unanswered questions about what drives individuals to such extremes.
