Hey everyone, I've been following the case of David Patrick, also known as La'Daijah Queenettla Walters, and something that's been on my mind is the community impact this tragic event has had. I live a couple of neighborhoods over from the Plantation Apartments where it happened, and the sense of unease is palpable. It’s just so difficult to grasp how something so violent could occur in a place where families are trying to live peacefully. The local coffee shop I frequent has been a hub for people to gather and discuss what's happened. It’s both comforting and painful to see people coming together, sharing their memories of Walters. Many have spoken about how she was always so vibrant, always the first to stand up when things weren’t right. It’s so important for us to honor that spirit by fostering the same courage in our own community interactions. I hope that with the arrests of Elishia Langie and Tyre Bright, some semblance of justice will be achieved. But there’s a feeling that our community has lost something intangible, a sense of safety that’ll take time to rebuild. Sending love and strength to those closer to David than I, hoping that they find support in this difficult time. ?
