I've been thinking a lot about the people who heard or saw what happened that day in Oakland. The fact that the shooting happened in broad daylight, so close to places where people are supposed to feel safe, is terrifying. Imagine being at the daycare nearby—parents dropping off their kids or workers doing their jobs—and hearing gunshots ring out in the middle of the afternoon. It must have been absolutely terrifying. I hope the community gets the support it needs, and that witnesses feel safe to come forward if they have any information. Raheem and his family deserve answers, and so does the community that's left reeling from this senseless act. It's just so unsettling to think about how quickly life can change, literally in an instant. Praying for justice and peace for everyone touched by this tragedy.
