I can't stop thinking about the community impact of the July 4th shooting on Lamar Street. It's just devastating that such violence erupted on what should have been a joyful night. Those apartments are home to so many families, and it's unbelievable that something like this could happen amidst people just trying to enjoy a holiday together. I’m especially concerned about the children involved and affected by the shooting. They're now left with these terrifying memories of a night that should've been filled with fireworks and laughter. It breaks my heart to think of the fear and confusion they must have felt when everything changed so suddenly. We need to talk more about how we can support communities like Wheatley Courts in times like these. Beyond catching those responsible, how can we foster healing and ensure that residents feel safe going forward? How do we come together to help families process this trauma? We owe it to the victims, like Cory, and everyone impacted, to do more than just discuss solutions. We need to act.
