Do you ever wonder how someone like Robert J. Wirth managed to slip into these homes so easily? It's haunting to think about how casually he seems to have entered Eva Holman's home without any apparent forced entry. My heart goes out to her family and the families of the other victims, knowing their loved ones were violated in what should be their safest space. With all the fear that gripped the community back then, it's chilling to think about neighbors possibly unaware of how close danger was—just a lock away. I can't help but wonder if simple things like reminding elderly relatives to lock up could have made a difference. But then again, hindsight is 20/20, and blaming the victims or their habits isn't right either. Still, how eerie is it that Eva's home was just one more in this terrifying spree, with what sounds like a similarly unsettling scene of ransacking left behind? It’s such a tragic pattern. She deserved so much better than this awful ending brought by a person who treated human life with such disregard. May we honor her memory by remaining vigilant and looking out for each other, wherever possible.
