Wow, this case is just so tragic and unsettling. I can't stop thinking about the impact on the friends and family left behind. The fact that Ryan Willis McFarland had such a significant criminal history yet managed to slip through the cracks is really troubling. It makes me question the vetting processes for those with past convictions. How did he even become a childcare provider after what happened in 2011? It just seems shocking to me that someone with that history could continue to have access to vulnerable individuals. These missteps in the system clearly had a catastrophic outcome, and it's gut-wrenching to think about what victims like Lesa and her children must have gone through. My heart goes out to their loved ones, who are probably grappling with so many questions, trying to make sense of what seems senseless. How can we prevent something like this from happening again? Would appreciate hearing thoughts, especially if anyone knows more about the protocols in place for background checks in childcare or similar settings in Iowa.
