I can't stop thinking about the vigil for Jaliyah and Tiana outside the Palmetto at Lakeside Apartments. It was such a powerful, emotional gathering. So many community members, friends, and family came together to honor the lives of those little girls. It was clear how deeply they were loved by everyone who knew them.
One thing that stood out to me was how the family and community spoke about the importance of checking in on others and paying attention to any signs of distress. They emphasized how crucial it is to support one another and prevent these tragedies before they happen. Jaliyah and Tiana deserved so much more time, and their story reminds us of the responsibility we have to look out for each other and to reach out when someone seems like they might be struggling.
The pain their mother must be going through is unimaginable, and my heart goes out to her and the rest of their family. It's crucial that we continue these conversations and advocate for more resources addressing domestic violence and mental health to prevent future instances of such devastating loss.
