I can't stop thinking about Yhantzee's role in the community. So many people have mentioned how he was always there for others, from helping with car trouble to just being a friendly face at the gym. It's tragic to see how a person so ingrained in lifting up those around him could have his life cut short in such a senseless way. I grew up in the South End around the same time and remember hearing his name mentioned in connection to all sorts of good deeds. Just knowing his family and friends will face this absence is tough to swallow. The fact that his last moments involved doing what so many of us do when something seems off—recording it for safety—hits home. It feels like he knew the situation with his neighbor could escalate, and yet, things still ended the way they did. I just keep hoping for some kind of justice, or at least some peace for his family, who must be reeling from this loss. Every update makes me think more about the need for communities to have spaces to safely resolve disputes before they reach this point. Sending love and strength to Yhantzee's family and everyone mourning his loss.
