I just cannot wrap my head around the events that culminated in the unspeakable tragedy on West 79th Street. My thoughts have been with the families since I first heard about what happened. Has anyone seen any follow-up on the mental health aspect of this case? It's incredibly troubling to think that Elkins had spoken about feeling mentally distressed and harboring suicidal thoughts not long before this. Mental health issues, especially in someone with a military background, can often be overlooked or not adequately addressed. Did he have any treatment or support networks? It makes me wonder if more attention to his mental state could have possibly prevented this. I sincerely hope that the community can rally together and work towards ensuring more mental health resources are available for those who need them before such instincts turn into irreversible actions. It’s a small comfort, but I hope in the wake of this tragedy, more awareness around these issues might emerge to prevent future heartbreak. Sending love and strength to all the families involved.
