It's so hard to make sense of the world when something as tragic as this happens. My heart goes out to all who knew and loved Shameka Miller. She dedicated her life to helping others as a traveling nurse, and it's gut-wrenching to think her life was cut short in such a violent way. I keep thinking about that phone call to 911. It must have been terrifying for her to be followed by those men and not know what might happen next. The fact that she was able to describe the car and give other details amidst all that fear is truly a testament to her presence of mind. It’s so unfortunate that it had to end the way it did. A friend of mine stayed at that same Baymont Inn a few months back, and it's chilling to think about because you expect to be safe in places like that. I was discussing this with another friend, and it feels like violence seems to follow us into spaces that should be secure. It just makes you more aware and cautious, I guess. I hope that justice is served for her, and those involved in this heinous act are held accountable. Such an immense loss for her family, friends, and the community she served. They're in my thoughts, and I hope they find some comfort as the investigation progresses.
