I can't stop thinking about the community impact this tragedy has had on East St. Louis. It's as if an entire neighborhood is going through this immense sense of loss and confusion. I grew up near 22nd Street and Market Avenue, and I can't recall a time when something this shocking happened so close to home. The fact that Anthony L. Powe, Davanta's father, has been arrested in connection with this is just devastating on so many levels. You just can't even begin to understand the depth of pain that family must be experiencing right now. Regardless of what led to this, it's a tragic situation with lingering effects that the community will deal with for a long time. Just hoping the injured survivor gets the help they need and that peace finds its way to everyone involved sooner rather than later.
