I was reading up on Donna Gail Manson's case, and something that sticks out to me is how her disappearance was initially misunderstood due to her independent nature and tendencies to sometimes disappear for short periods. Reflecting today, I think it highlights how critical it is for friends and loved ones to trust their instincts and voice their concerns, even when someone has a pattern of intermittently cutting off contact. Donna's friends, who knew her well, might have been able to raise alarms sooner if there had been more societal awareness about the patterns of disappearing persons back then. Perhaps early intervention might have made a difference. It's a poignant reminder of how important it is to listen to those who truly know a person’s habits and to create a culture where raising such concerns is taken seriously without fear of judgment. It's so painful to think about what her family went through, and I hope their voices and concerns are amplified in future similar circumstances.
