Has anyone come across any recent updates on how the investigation is progressing? It's been a few days now since Koetay's tragic passing, and I'm trying to stay hopeful that justice will be served. I can't even begin to imagine the pain his family is going through, losing someone so young and with a promising future ahead.
I heard there were community gatherings to support the family, which must be bringing some comfort during this devastating time. If anyone has attended or knows more about how the community is pulling together, I'd love to hear about it. It's incredible how, in times of such sorrow, people can come together to support one another.
Also, if anyone knows how the family is holding up or if there's a way we can help, please share. It must be overwhelming for them, and I’m sure they could use all the support they can get right now.
I keep thinking about the impact Koetay's death must be having on his teachers and classmates at school. Being just 18, he was likely just finishing up his schooling and had plans and dreams for his future. It's really challenging to think about how those at his school are coping with this loss. Educators often form bonds with their students and seeing a promising young life end in such a senseless way must be incredibly difficult for them as well. I hope the school is providing counseling and support to help everyone process this tragedy. My heart goes out to anyone who had the privilege of knowing Koetay. Being part of a close-knit community like Oglala, I'm sure his absence is felt deeply. Let's keep those who are mourning him in our thoughts.
